Mr Lauren De Maertelaere graduated magna cum laude as Master of Laws from Ghent University in 2020. During her studies, she spent a semester studying at the University of Lisbon in Portugal, where she honed her professional level of English.

During her studies, she mainly focused on (international) Criminal Law. Lauren wrote her master’s thesis on the international use of brain scans as evidence in criminal cases.

In October 2020, she also completed an internship at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Ghent, where her penchant for Criminal Law only grew.

After her Master’s in Law, Ms Lauren De Maertelaere obtained the Educational Master’s in Social Sciences – Department of Law with great distinction at Ghent University in 2021. Through this programme, she obtained the certificate of competence to teach legal subjects in secondary education.

Because of this training, Lauren is very good at explaining the sometimes complicated legal framework to clients in a manageable way.

In October 2021, Lauren started as a lawyer at the law firm Decordier & Partners, where she worked in different areas of law.

Since June 2023, Lauren has been part of DGDM.

As a lawyer at DGDM, Lauren will practice criminal law in the broad sense of the word; thus, she assists clients during every stage of the criminal process.

Her many years of experience as a member and leader of Girl Sciro Balegem and her position as secretary of the daily management of the Youth Council of Oosterzele have given her a high regard for values such as communication, taking the initiative and cooperation.

In her spare time, she enjoys going out with her friends, travelling and taking weekly drawing classes at the Municipal Academy of Art in Ghent.
